Comm MadeirosGarry A. Madeiros was appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Bermuda Casino Gaming Commission effective 1st May 2015. Mr. Madeiros has extensive business and leadership experience. For 14 years as President & CEO, he led the Electricity Company on the island retiring in 2007 as President & Chief Executive Officer of BELCO Holdings Limited (now known as Ascendant Group limited), Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited and Bermuda Gas & Utility Limited.

Mr. Madeiros, a Chartered Accountant, has served on a large number of corporate, community and Government boards. He has been Chairman of the Defense & Promotions Board for the Bermuda Regiment, Member of the Executive Committee of Bermuda 2009 that organized the year’s celebration of Bermuda’s 400th anniversary, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Cedarbridge Academy, a comprehensive public senior school, Chairman of Board of Governors of Mount Saint Agnes Academy(MSA), a Catholic School, Director and Chairman of Finance of The Mid Ocean Club, President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bermuda, Chairman of Council Partners Charitable Trust, Chairman of Employees Assistance Program, President of the Bermuda Employers Council, Chairman of the Hotel Pension Plan, Chairman, MSA $5,000,000 Capital Campaign, Chairman of the Finance Council for the Catholic Diocese, Director of the National Board of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and Director of BELCO Holdings Limited.

Presently Mr. Madeiros is a Director of BF&M Limited, Chairman and Director of BF&M Life Insurance Company Limited and Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Utilico Emerging Markets Limited, an exempted close ended Bermuda Investment Company that invests predominantly in infrastructure, utility and related companies in Emerging Markets. He is also Chairman of the Sustainable Development Round Table and Deputy Chairman of the ACBDA Legacy & Sustainability committee.

For his contribution to the Chartered Accountant Profession and the community he was awarded a Fellowship from the Bermuda Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1996 and for his contribution to education and the community he was awarded a Fellowship from Bermuda College in 2002. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace (JP) in 2002. He was made an Officer of the British Empire, OBE, in June 2011 as recognition for his seven years as Chairman of the Defence Board. He was the first and only civilian Chairman and during his tenure advised three Commanding Officers and two Governors

Mr. Madeiros received his Business Administration Degree with a Major in Accounting from St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada. He received his Chartered Accountant designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia, Canada. Garry lives in Pembroke, Bermuda, with his wife of 43 years, Julie. The couple have two daughters and five grandchildren.
